All Levels Floorwork at DanceMore Studio
Hanoi, Vietnam
November 7th 2-4pm

Class Description: Learn how to slip, slide and glide across the floor with efficiency, control and style. We’ll play with a variety of tools you can add to your toolbox, including rolls, spins, level changes and ways of using momentum to make weight shifts and transitions feel effortless. Whether you dance freestyle, hip hop, breaking or contemporary, or you’re simply curious about exploring the floor, you’ll leave with practical skills you can apply to your own movement. No experience needed: all levels are welcome, and options will be offered so everyone can work at a pace that feels good for them.

Here are some examples of classes I’ve taught:

Embody and Express: (all levels, all ages, all abilities) A creative improvisation workshop for anyone who wants to expand their movement vocabulary and discover new ways to express themselves. Through playful prompts and guided exploration, we’ll step outside our comfort zones and uncover possibilities we didn’t know were in our bodies. No experience or “right way” to move required, just curiosity and a willingness to play.

Becoming the Beat: (all levels, all ages, all abilities) A creative improvisation workshop focused on rhythm, groove, and musicality. You’ll leave with a toolkit of approaches for dancing to any genre of music, and for hearing and expressing the many layers within a song. Come ready to listen, move, and find your own relationship to the beat.

Contemporary Floorwork: (open level, intermediate or advanced options) Best suited for dancers with some movement background, this class is an exploration of fluid pathways in and out of the floor. Through spirals, inversions, momentum, and dynamic weight shifts, we’ll build strength, mobility, coordination, and efficiency while expanding your expressive range. We begin with a grounded warm-up that prepares the spine, hips, and shoulders for the work ahead, then move into exercises that break down the mechanics of rolling, sliding, and shifting weight so you can find ease in the transitions. From there, we layer the movement into longer phrases that travel through levels, letting momentum carry you up, down, and around the floor with control and release. Whether you’re newer to floorwork or looking to deepen your practice, options are offered throughout so you can work at your own level. Expect to leave feeling stronger, more connected to your body, and more confident moving through the floor with fluidity and intention.

Beginner/Intermediate Contemporary: This class builds the foundational skills of contemporary technique, with a focus on spirals, momentum, release, and alignment, and how they work together to make dynamic movement efficient and sustainable. We begin with a thorough warm-up, then move into across-the-floor patterns that return in a closing phrase. Throughout, you’re encouraged to prioritize your own expression over getting every step “right.”

Advanced Contemporary: This class is designed for dancers ready to refine and expand their technical range. We’ll explore fluid transitions in and out of the floor, soft acrobatics, dynamic weight shifts, and layered turns, all moving through intricate pathways. Emphasis is placed on balancing precision with flow and momentum, so movement feels both articulate and alive. Expect challenging, rich choreography that asks you to bring your full artistry.
